The Role

Qualiteach is on the search for an EAL HLTA in the London borough of Haringey. The ideal candidate will be proactive and adaptable in their approach in supporting children that face difficulties with the English language. As such experience with EAL is mandatory. Ideally a specialist with a strong academic linguistic background to cover a temporary EAL HLTA role up until Easter, with a view of this potentially becoming a permanent role afterwards. You would need to be confident in assessing proficiency in English, leading EAL lessons, support, plan, adapt and mark work as per their individual needs; lead EAL clubs, supporting students’ acculturation into the country and providing guidance to mainstream teachers. Also would need to be confident IT users.

Historically this role has been filled in by people with a linguistic degree (eg. English philology or similar) who may or not have had QTS at the time.
